Using the VR Headset to Teach Good Shooting Form

February 28, 2019 by Chip Northrup

Your shooting will improve if you wear the VR headset correctly.  Both in virtual reality and that other reality.

Since the Vive Headset uses fresnel lenses, it has very little tolerance for off-axis viewing. Meaning, if you are not looking directly at the target, the view will go a bit fuzzy, since you’ll be looking at the edge of the fresnel prisms. Looking directly at the target will restore clarity.  This in effect forces correct head position on the stock in Clazer Pro Gun – you have to hold your head right to get the clearest image of the target.

If you’re looking at the target with partial peripheral vision, it will appear fuzzy. Don’t do that.  Look right at it with both eyes, your cheek connected to the comb, but looking up and when you do, your VR shooting will truly come into focus !

Most shooters will have no problem with the Vive headset if they have a well-fitting stock, hold their head up, eyes front and well behind their thumb, like they’re supposed to.
This is a Monte Carlo stock with sufficient LOP, but you get the idea, Kim would have gobs of room for a Vive Pro headset:

Show below is what’s known as “crawling the stock” which presents a problem  for a pair of glasses much less a VR headset:
